The Backwoods Inn is a landmark in the community. It is where the locals eat when they want the best steak and potato. The restaurant was purchased in 1968 by Bob & Rose Ohler. The restaurant was small in the beginning and Bob & Rose worked hard to build up their business and acquire regular customers. They both did the book work for the restaurant and Bob worked as the bartender and Rose was a server and hostess. Bob & Rose moved their family from Granada Hills, CA to the Santa Clarita Valley when the Valley was still a small community. Bob was the president of the Canyon Country Chamber of Commerce two terms in a row and he was also a member of the Newhall Rotary Club. He was also an avid golfer. Bob & Rose used to go on antique buying trips to decorate the restaurant. The Backwoods Inn is full of their finds. Some of Bob's Coca Cola collection is displayed in the front showcase.
Carol, their daughter, works as general manager and oversees the everyday operation. Bob passed away in December of 2001. www.scvhistory.com/scvhistory/sg120401.htm Rose still works, keeping everything together and doing the important book work that comes along with owning your own business. The business started with a mere 6 employees and today the payroll averages around 40 employees.
Owners Rose, Bob, Carol & Kathy
